Begin with what you are noticing.

You do not need a perfect explanation or a preferred modality. Come with your experience and questions, and we can begin there.

Listen to your patient. They will tell you what is happening.

Find your doorway

Which of these feels closest to where you are?

Choose the starting point that resonates. It is not a diagnosis and it does not lock you into a particular form of care.

A possible doorway

Something hurts, feels restricted or keeps returning.

A conversation may begin with how you move, what aggravates or eases the experience, and what has already been tried.

This guide is reflective, not diagnostic. If you are unsure, reception can help you choose an appropriate appointment.

Your first visit

Clarity before complexity.

The first appointment creates room to understand why you have come, what matters to you and whether our approach is an appropriate fit.

  1. 01

    Your story

We begin with conversation: your current experience, relevant history, concerns, preferences and hopes for the visit.

  2. 02

    Assessment and enquiry

Where relevant, the practitioner may explore movement, posture, tenderness or other clinical findings and explain what they are doing as they go.

  3. 03

    Choice and consent

Options are discussed before care begins. You can ask questions, decline or pause any part of the appointment.

  4. 04

    A proportionate next step

If ongoing care is discussed, it should make sense to you. There is no obligation to commit to a program.

Prepare gently

Nothing elaborate is required.

01

Wear what feels easy

Comfortable clothing that allows natural movement is helpful. Reception can answer questions about what a particular appointment involves.

02

Bring useful context

Relevant reports or imaging may be useful, but you do not need to assemble a complete archive before making contact.

03

Keep your questions

Write down anything you do not want to forget, especially questions about options, comfort, timing or what happens next.

When another door is needed

Some experiences need urgent or different care.

Conscious Bodywork is not an emergency service. New severe symptoms, major trauma, chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or other urgent concerns should be assessed promptly through appropriate medical or emergency services.

For a critical or life-threatening emergency, call 000. For 24-hour health advice from a registered nurse, contact healthdirect on 1800 022 222.

If you are unsure whether an appointment here is suitable, call (02) 4031 8834 or speak with your usual healthcare professional.
